Potential Health Hazards

A number of health problems can develop from toxic chemicals that are dispersed into the autmosphere during chemical fires. Due to the large number of various chemicals located at the Magnablend Central Facility during the fire on October 3, 2011, health effects may vary greatly and may not develop immediately.

A review of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) has revealed a number of potential health hazards residents may have been exposed to. The health effects include, but are not limited to:

  • respiratory problems,
  • asthma,
  • bronchitis,
  • drowsiness,
  • gastrointestinal problems,
  • vomiting,
  • vision problems,
  • chest tightness,
  • heart attacks,
  • dermatitis,
  • dizziness,
  • other long-term effects.
